Vestas,  comical and comely gentleman of continental origin, known to all as ‘The Great Dane’ partook of a hair-raising adventure (misadventure!!!) recently.

Whilst out on a new walk location (burr-free) so as to protect his precious furnishings, his Greatness lost his bearings and strayed from the pack. It grew dark and rainy and windy and cold. We waited and waited and called and called and searched and searched til 10 that night, to no avail.

This led to a long and worrying night from his staff and followers! The ‘what if’s” swirled around in our sleepless heads til morning!

Back on site next day we called and called, and searched and searched, this time with a team of very kind (encouraged)! reinforcements. First responders downed tools on their jobs telling their bosses there was a catastrophic canine emergency, local radio stations were called – 4 of them!!! – Facebook, Gumtree and Instagram were mobilised, along with the canvassing of 15 000 residents in the immediate area at great expense to his staff!!! There was even talk of admirers, fawners and hangers-on collectively raising a substantial reward in case his Greatness had been stolen, in order to tempt would-be thieves to give him back!

A news team from the local TV station were on standby and vets across the town were alerted to spring into action at a moments notice!

Concerned citizens from the neighbouring town elected a volunteer ‘tracker’ of some repute, to head the ‘search-and-rescue’ attempt. This proved to be a timely move. Said ‘tracker’ descended on the site and galvanising bemused onlookers to arms.

Suddenly the cry sprang out! CULPRIT FOUND!

Spakked out, shaking and disorientated!

Running down the road, to where, we’ll never know!

His rescuer, pictured below, remembered him from a time gone by because of his ‘pretty’ face!

Following his Greatness’s misadventure, embossed collars and leads were purchased, WI-FI trackers deployed and further intensive obedience training was undertaken, at even further expense. Hearing and vision specialists have been strongly considered!

AND, you ask, has that taught Vestas, ‘The Great Dane’ (actually mini-schnauzer)! a lesson?

Stay tuned to find out!
