Oh, beautiful Sunday – day of rest for the crew here at ‘SCHNAUZERHAUS.’

And what better way to spend it then with a drive to the home of Schnauzers – birth place of Clark Gable, Bianca the Beautiful and Arcadia, the retiree.  Also the first Australian residence of our illustrious import from Denmark, Dr Vestas.

Along the way, there was the obligatory stop at KFC, for a small popcorn chicken to share, then on to the Schnauzer stud.

Needless to say, much excited barking heralded our arrival and there was a mass exodus from the Schnauzermobile!

Before our walk, there were new puppies to coo over, with button noses and teeny little paws. The Schnauzer crew darted into the bush, while the humans fussed over the puppies.

Then armed with doggie treats we set off with Grandma Caroline, grandmammy of schnauzers, and a crew of Schnauzer residents, to walk to the dam at the back of the property.

Oh bliss! Smells to smell, logs to jump and bushes to crash through. Intrepid hunters all, with small animals to track down while careening through the undergrowth.

The dam was a soggy, muddy, over-full delight on a hot day, and many schnauzer paws dabbled in the cool depths. One old grand  doggie,  piked out half-way home and had to be carried and one pup belly-flopped down on the cool earth, schnauzer sploot style, under our feet.

The bush sparkled from the recent rains, with baby ferns and wildflowers sprouting up in our path. The smell of wet earth and fresh young leaves was everywhere. The birds chirped and the insects droned, and of course, Dr Vestas, the escape artist, along with a schnauzer buddy, figured out a short-cut home. There was much calling out from the humans, to no avail. Both culprits met us at the house,  quizzical faces demanding to know what had had taken us so long!

Then it was drinks all round, muddy paws dried, and into the Schnauzermobile for the trip home in the air con. Needless to say, not a sound issued from the back of the car during the trip. As usual, after a big walk, Dr Vestas had to be carried inside, as he had completely flaked out.

Dinner was promptly served, and happy schnauzers passed out for the night, dreaming of bush critters not caught, and those last smells smelt!

And before he closed his eyes, Dr Vestas reminds you:

If you can’t fix it, just pee on it and walk away!
